AQEEQAH

The birth of a child is a joyous occasion for every family. It is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that when a baby is born the parents should perform an Aqeeqah for the child by slaughtering two goats or sheep for a boy and one sheep or goat for a girl, as a way of gratitude to Allah SWT for the blessings of their child.

It is Mustahab (recommended) to perform the sacrifice within 7 days after the child is born.

Ummul Mu’mineen, A’isha RA said:

‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did the Aqeeqah for al-Hasan and al-Husayn on the seventh day, and then gave them names.’ [Al Hakim]
