Emergency Response

On Sunday 10 September, a storm hit north-eastern Libya, causing strong winds and sudden heavy rainfall. The result was devastating flash floods swept away everything in their path.

In the port city of Derna, two dams burst under the pressure and entire neighbourhoods were destroyed by the three-metre-high flood waters. Thousands of people have been killed, morgues are stacked to capacity and dead bodies have been left on the sidewalks outside. Eyewitness footage shared on social media showed the devastation after the floods, with collapsed rooftops and tumbled cars amid the rubble of destroyed infrastructure.

The eastern cities of Benghazi, Sousa, and Al-Marj also experienced flash flooding and, like Derna, are in urgent need of vital aid and support.

LIA Relief Trust is working with local partners to ensure that aid is being delivered to the affected communities. Our brothers and sisters are in desperate need of our help.

Please donate generously and help the people of Libya.

We pray that Allāh ﷺ grants cure to the injured, patience to the suffering, strength to those who are mourning and enable all those on the ground to help as many people in need as possible. Āmīn.

Please don’t forget to gift-aid your donation - it’s not going to cost you any extra but will make a huge difference where it matters Inshā’aAllāh
